Great Slav Rising

983 · 10th century · Also known as Slavic uprising of 983

The Great Slav Rising was a revolt of the Polabian Slavs, led by the Lutician tribes, against German rule east of the Elbe in 983. The rebels destroyed the bishoprics of Havelberg and Brandenburg and drove out the margraves of the Northern March. German control of the region was lost for more than a century, and Slavic paganism revived.
