Gresik
Gresik is a port town on the north coast of East Java, Indonesia, just north-west of Surabaya. From the fourteenth century it was a busy harbour for Chinese, Gujarati and Javanese traders and an early centre of Islam in Java: Maulana Malik Ibrahim was buried there in 1419, and Sunan Giri founded his religious school on the hills nearby. It is now an industrial city.
