Guadeloupe Fund

1815–1983 · 19th century · Also known as Guadeloupefonden

The Guadeloupe Fund was a sum of 24 million francs that Britain paid Sweden in 1815 as compensation for giving up the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe, granted to it in 1813 and returned to France. The Riksdag assigned the money to Crown Prince Charles John and his heirs, and from 1815 the Swedish state paid the Bernadotte family an annual sum until it was finally redeemed in 1983.
