Guelowar
The Guelowar were a maternal royal lineage of Mandinka origin from Kaabu that, according to Serer tradition, settled in the Serer country of present-day Senegal around the 14th century. Marrying into the old Serer landholding families, they supplied the kings of Sine and Saloum, with succession passing through the female line. Their dynasties reigned until the 20th century.
