Guo Wei

904–954 · 10th century · Also known as Emperor Taizu of Later Zhou

Guo Wei was a leading general of the Later Han. When the young emperor Liu Chengyou killed several senior ministers in 950 and plotted against him, slaughtering his family in Kaifeng, Guo Wei marched on the capital, and early in 951 he founded the Later Zhou, the last of the Five Dynasties. He eased harsh taxes and punishments, and was succeeded by his adopted son Chai Rong.
