1907 · 20th century · Also known as Harvester judgment

The Harvester case of 1907 was a decision of Justice H. B. Higgins of the Australian Commonwealth Court of Conciliation and Arbitration concerning H. V. McKay's Sunshine Harvester works in Melbourne. Higgins ruled that a fair and reasonable wage must meet the needs of a labourer supporting a family, setting a basic wage of seven shillings a day that became the foundation of Australian wage fixing.
