Hermanus Steyn
Hermanus Steyn was a burgher of the Swellendam district of the Dutch Cape Colony. In June 1795, after the settlers expelled the Dutch East India Company's landdrost, he was chosen president of their assembly of national representatives in the short-lived Swellendam Republic. The republic submitted to British rule after the British occupied the Cape later that year.
