Hyde Parker

1739–1807 · 18th century · Also known as Sir Hyde Parker

Sir Hyde Parker was a British admiral who commanded the fleet sent in 1801 to break the League of Armed Neutrality. At the Battle of Copenhagen his signal to break off the action was famously ignored by his second-in-command, Horatio Nelson, who went on to defeat the Danish fleet. Parker was recalled soon afterwards and Nelson replaced him.
