Hyeonjong of Goryeo
Hyeonjong of Goryeo was king of Goryeo from 1009 to 1031. Brought to the throne after a coup, he faced the Khitan invasion of 1010, which burned Kaegyong and forced him to flee south to Naju. After the commander Gang Gam-chan destroyed a Khitan army at Gwiju in 1019, he restored the kingdom and ordered the carving of the first Korean Tripitaka.
