Kaesong

Also known as Kaegyong, Gaegyeong, Songdo, Songak

Kaesong is a city in southern North Korea, near the border with South Korea. As Kaegyong it was the capital of Goryeo from 919 to 1392, apart from the court's refuge on Ganghwa island from 1232 to 1270. Its palace site of Manwoldae, royal tombs and Confucian academies are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it was later a centre of ginseng trade.
