Liaodong

Liaodong is the region of north-east China east of the Liao River, including the Liaodong Peninsula between the Bohai Sea and Korea Bay. Held by the State of Yan and then by Chinese empires as a commandery, it was later contested by Goguryeo, the Khitan, the Jurchen and the Manchus. In modern times its ports of Lüshun and Dalian were leased to Russia and then to Japan.
