Buddhism
Buddhism is a religion and philosophy based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha, which originated in northern India around the fifth century BCE. Promoted by Ashoka of the Maurya Empire, it spread across Asia and became a pillar of states such as the Srivijaya and Khmer empires. It flourished in Tang China and received patronage under the Yuan Dynasty, while Gandharan Buddhist art drew on the Greek legacy of the Seleucid Empire.
