Southeast Asia

Southeast Asia is the region comprising mainland states such as Cambodia and Thailand and the islands of Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines. It lay on major maritime trade routes between India and China. Empires such as the Khmer, Srivijaya and Majapahit arose there, and it was influenced by Indian culture under the Gupta Empire and later occupied by the Empire of Japan.
