Empire of Japan

Also known as Imperial Japan

The Empire of Japan was the Japanese state from the Meiji Restoration of 1868 until the post-war constitution of 1947. It modernised rapidly, defeated China and Russia, acquired colonies including Taiwan and Korea, and expanded across East and South-East Asia before its defeat in the Second World War in 1945.
