Taiwan
Taiwan is a large island off the south-eastern coast of China. The Dutch established a colony there in the seventeenth century but lost it to Koxinga's forces in 1662, and the Qing took the island from the Zheng family in 1683. After the First Sino-Japanese War of 1894–1895 it became a Japanese colony, supplying sugar and rice to the Empire of Japan.
