Ilanz Articles

1524–1526 · 16th century

The Ilanz Articles were two sets of decrees adopted at Ilanz by the Three Leagues of Graubünden in 1524 and 1526. They stripped the bishop of Chur of most of his secular rights, gave the communes control over church appointments and opened the way for the Reformation, making the Leagues a federation of largely self-governing communes.
