Ismail Abd al-Nabi
Ismail Abd al-Nabi was a Masalit holy man who built up authority among the Masalit people on the western fringe of the Darfur Sultanate in the 1870s, as Darfur fell to Zubayr Pasha and Egypt. His family founded the independent Sultanate of Dar Masalit around 1874, which survived between French and British empires until it accepted British indirect rule and joined Anglo-Egyptian Sudan in 1922.
