Darfur Sultanate
The Darfur Sultanate was a Muslim state of the Fur people in what is now western Sudan, which flourished from the seventeenth to the nineteenth century. Its economy rested on Fur agriculture in the Marrah highlands, slave raiding and trade along the Darb el-Arba'in route to Egypt. It was a neighbour and rival of the Wadai Empire and was eventually brought down by Egyptian and later British expansion.
