Battle of Dorothé
The Battle of Dorothé was fought on 9 November 1910 in Dar Masalit, on the border of Darfur and Chad, between Masalit forces of Sultan Taj al-Din and a French colonial column. The Masalit defeated the French, and the French commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Maillard, was killed, but the sultan also died in the fighting. The battle helped keep Dar Masalit outside French Equatorial Africa, and it later became part of Sudan.
