Battle of Dorylaeum (1097)

1097 · 11th century · Part of the First Crusade

The Battle of Dorylaeum was fought on 1 July 1097 near Dorylaeum in north-western Anatolia, during the First Crusade. The Seljuk sultan Kilij Arslan I attacked the crusader vanguard, but the arrival of the main crusader army turned the battle into a heavy Seljuk defeat. The victory opened Anatolia to the crusaders' march towards Antioch and pushed the Seljuks back to the central plateau.
