Ismail Khan of Shaki
Ismail Khan was the last khan of Shaki, a khanate in the north of present-day Azerbaijan, which had accepted Russian protection in 1805. Installed under Russian oversight, he ruled until his death in 1819, after which the Russian Empire abolished the khanate and turned it into the Shaki province. The khans' palace in Shaki, with its painted interiors, survives as part of a World Heritage Site.
