Ius regale montanorum

c. 1300 · 14th century

The Ius regale montanorum was a mining code issued around 1300 by Wenceslaus II, king of Bohemia, for the silver mines of Kutná Hora. Drafted with the help of the Italian lawyer Gozzius of Orvieto, it regulated mining rights, the work of miners and the royal share of the ore. It was one of the most influential mining laws of medieval Europe and was copied in other mining regions.
