Iuvavum

Iuvavum was a Roman town in the province of Noricum on the Salzach, on the site of modern Salzburg in Austria. Raised to a municipium under Emperor Claudius, it declined in the 5th century, and around 696 Saint Rupert founded a church and monastery among its ruins, the origin of Salzburg.
