Gastein Valley

Also known as Gasteinertal

The Gastein Valley is an Alpine valley in the Austrian state of Salzburg, south of the Salzach. Its gold and silver mines made it a major source of wealth for the prince-archbishops of Salzburg in the 15th and 16th centuries, and its hot springs have drawn visitors since the Middle Ages. Bad Gastein became a fashionable spa, where the Gastein Convention was signed in 1865.
