Jamal al-Din Khan of Talysh
Jamal al-Din Khan, called Qara Khan, was the founder of the Talysh Khanate on the south-western shore of the Caspian. Around 1747, after the death of Nader Shah, he made the Talysh district an independent khanate, with its capital first at Astara and then at Lankaran. His descendants ruled until the Treaty of Turkmenchay of 1828 divided Talysh between Russia and Persia.
