Talysh
Talysh is a historical region on the south-western shore of the Caspian Sea, divided between south-eastern Azerbaijan and Iran's Gilan and Ardabil provinces. Home of the Talysh people, who speak a north-western Iranian language, it has humid forested mountains and fertile lowlands. In the 18th century its northern part formed the Talysh Khanate, which passed to the Russian Empire under the treaties of 1813 and 1828.
