Jean-Claude Duvalier

1951–2014 · 20th century · Also known as Baby Doc

Jean-Claude Duvalier, known as 'Baby Doc', was President of Haiti from 1971 to 1986, succeeding his father François Duvalier at the age of 19. His regime kept up the repression of the Tonton Macoute while he and his circle enriched themselves amid deep poverty. Mass protests forced him into exile in France in February 1986; he returned to Haiti in 2011 and died there in 2014.
