Jones–Shafroth Act
The Jones–Shafroth Act was a United States law of 1917 that granted United States citizenship to the people of Puerto Rico. It also reorganised the island's government, creating an elected Senate and a bill of rights, while the governor and other high officials were still appointed from Washington. It remained Puerto Rico's basic law until the Commonwealth constitution of 1952.
