Joseph Aoun

Joseph Aoun is a Lebanese army general and politician who became president of Lebanon in January 2025. He was commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces from 2017, leading the army through the financial collapse of 2019 and the 2024 war between Israel and Hezbollah. His election by parliament ended more than two years without a president.
