Josiah

reigned c. 640–609 BCE · 7th century BCE

Josiah was king of Judah from about 640 to 609 BCE. According to the Bible, the discovery of a 'book of the law' in the Temple during his reign led him to carry out a sweeping religious reform, abolishing other cults and centralising worship in Jerusalem. He was killed at Megiddo in 609 BCE in an encounter with Pharaoh Necho II of Egypt.
