Kallergis family
The Kallergis were a powerful Greek noble family of Crete under Venetian rule, claiming descent from Byzantine aristocracy. Alexios Kallergis led a long revolt against Venice from 1282 that ended in 1299 with a treaty granting the family privileges and Venetian noble status. Members of the family were drawn into the Revolt of Saint Titus in 1363, and the Kallergis brothers led Greek resistance until 1367.
