Karkota dynasty

c. 625–855 · 7th century

The Karkota dynasty ruled Kashmir from about 625 to 855. Founded by Durlabhavardhana, it reached its height under Lalitaditya Muktapida in the eighth century, whose campaigns reached far into northern India and who built the Sun Temple at Martand. Known chiefly from Kalhana's Rajatarangini, it was succeeded by the Utpala dynasty.
