Kelso Abbey

1128 · 12th century

Kelso Abbey is a ruined abbey in the Scottish Borders, founded by Tironensian monks who moved there from Selkirk under David I in 1128. It became one of the richest monasteries in Scotland. Lying close to the English border, it was repeatedly attacked, and an English army under the Earl of Hertford wrecked it in 1545.
