Kelmis

Also known as La Calamine

Kelmis, in French La Calamine, is a municipality in the German-speaking Community of Belgium near Aachen. Its zinc mine, the Vieille Montagne, was so valuable that the Netherlands and Prussia left it in the neutral condominium of Neutral Moresnet from 1816 until the territory passed to Belgium after the First World War. Mining there ended in 1885.
