King Li of Zhou

r. c. 877–841 BCE · 9th century BCE

King Li of Zhou was the tenth king of the Western Zhou dynasty, reigning from about 877 to 841 BCE. His harsh rule, monopolies and suppression of criticism provoked a revolt in the capital in 841 BCE, which drove him into exile at Zhi. The Gonghe regency that followed began the first securely dated year of Chinese history.
