K'inich Yax K'uk' Mo'

r. 426–437 · 5th century

K'inich Yax K'uk' Mo' was the founder of the royal dynasty of Copán, in present-day Honduras, who took power in 426 CE. Inscriptions link him to Teotihuacan and Tikal, and a tomb believed to be his lies deep beneath the Acropolis. Fifteen later kings traced their descent from him, and his agents refounded Quiriguá as a dependency of Copán.
