Kyi, Shchek and Khoryv

Also known as Kyi, Kyi, Shchek and Khoriv

Kyi, Shchek and Khoryv are three legendary brothers who, with their sister Lybid, are credited in the Primary Chronicle with founding Kiev on the hills above the Dnieper. Kyi, the eldest, gave the city its name, and the chronicle names hills and the Lybid river after the others. The legend reflects the early history of the Polans, the East Slavic tribe of the Kiev region.
