La Brabançonne

1830 · 19th century

La Brabançonne is the national anthem of Belgium, written during the Belgian Revolution of 1830 with words by Jenneval, a French actor in Brussels, and music by François Van Campenhout. Its name recalls Brabant, the old duchy at whose heart Brussels lies. The text has been revised several times, and the anthem is sung in French, Dutch and German.
