La Paz

Also known as Nuestra Señora de La Paz

La Paz is a city in the Andes of western Bolivia, founded by the Spanish in 1548 and today the seat of Bolivia's government. Its uprising of July 1809, following that of Chuquisaca, was among the first movements towards independence in Spanish South America. Sucre remains the constitutional capital, while the executive and legislature sit in La Paz.
