Lake Prespa
Lake Prespa is a pair of lakes in the mountains of the southern Balkans, shared by North Macedonia, Albania and Greece. Around 1000 Tsar Samuel of Bulgaria made it a centre of his realm, building a basilica and residence on the island of Saint Achillius in Small Prespa Lake, where relics of the saint were brought from Larissa. The area remained a seat of Bulgarian power until the Byzantine conquest of 1018.
