Lake Prile
Lake Prile, the Roman Lacus Prilius, was a coastal lagoon in southern Etruria near modern Grosseto, fed by the Ombrone and once open to the sea. The Etruscan cities of Vetulonia and Rusellae stood on hills above its shores and used it as a harbour. It gradually silted into marshland, the later Padule di Castiglione, and was drained between the 18th and 20th centuries.
