Lakilaponto
Lakilaponto was the sixth king of Buton, an island state off south-eastern Sulawesi, and its first sultan. Around 1540 he adopted Islam under the influence of a teacher from the Malay world and took the name Sultan Murhum, turning the kingdom into the Sultanate of Buton. Tradition credits him with defending Buton against outside raiders and laying the foundations of its later institutions.
