Lamu Old Town
Lamu Old Town is the historic centre of Lamu, on Lamu Island off the northern coast of Kenya. Inhabited for more than seven centuries, it is the oldest and best-preserved Swahili town in East Africa, with narrow streets, coral-stone houses with carved wooden doors, and mosques. It was a major port of the Indian Ocean trade and became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001.
