Le Corbusier

1887–1965 · 20th century · Also known as Charles-Édouard Jeanneret

Le Corbusier was a Swiss-born French architect, designer and urban planner and one of the pioneers of modern architecture. His buildings, such as the Villa Savoye, the Unité d'Habitation in Marseille and the chapel at Ronchamp, and his plans for Chandigarh in India shaped 20th-century design. He admired the plain, functional forms of the Mzab towns of Algeria, which he visited in the 1930s.
