Lenca people
The Lenca are an indigenous people of western Honduras and eastern El Salvador, living mainly in the highland departments of Intibucá, Lempira and La Paz in Honduras. Their language died out in the twentieth century, but they keep distinctive traditions of pottery and ritual. The sixteenth-century leader Lempira, who resisted the Spanish conquest, became a Honduran national hero.
