Les Cayes
Les Cayes is a port city on the southern coast of Haiti, capital of the Sud department. In the colonial and revolutionary periods it was the main town of the southern peninsula and the stronghold of André Rigaud, who based his separate southern government there in 1810–1811. In 1816 Simón Bolívar sailed from Les Cayes with Haitian help to renew the struggle for Venezuelan independence.
