Les Andelys

Les Andelys is a town on the Seine in the Eure department of Normandy. Above it stands Château Gaillard, built by Richard the Lionheart in 1196–1198 to defend Normandy against Philip II of France and taken by the French in 1204 after a long siege. The painter Nicolas Poussin was born nearby in 1594.
