Līloa

15th century · 15th century · Also known as Liloa

Līloa was ruler (aliʻi nui) of the island of Hawaiʻi in the late 15th century, ruling from Waipiʻo Valley. Hawaiian tradition remembers him as a respected ruler and the father of Hākau, his heir, and of ʻUmi-a-Līloa, born to a woman of lower rank, whom he acknowledged as his son. On his death the island passed to Hākau, and the brothers' quarrel led to ʻUmi's revolt.
