Kohala, Hawaii
Kohala is the northernmost district of the island of Hawaiʻi, formed by the old Kohala volcano. It is the traditional birthplace of Kamehameha I and the site of Moʻokini Heiau, one of the oldest temples in Hawaii. Its dry leeward slopes supported the extensive Kohala field system of rain-fed farming, now an important archaeological landscape.
