Kona, Hawaii
Kona is the district on the dry western, leeward side of the island of Hawaiʻi, divided into North and South Kona, with Kailua-Kona as its main town. A royal centre of the island's rulers, its slopes carried a large rain-fed field system that supported a dense population before European contact. Kealakekua Bay, where James Cook was killed, lies on its coast, and the district is now known for Kona coffee.
